The Miles Block Building was one of Joplin’s earliest buildings according to the 1902 picture book,  built sometime in the 1880’s or before.

The buildings are being restored and put back into retail use in the hopes of furthering downtown Joplin’s Revival. It will be a perfect location for a restaurant or other retail business that wants a high profile main street location with parking. An architectural salvage business is already slated for the 118 Main property.

Facts about the restoration:
  • We are using 100 year old brick from the area that matches the existing 18 inch thick brick walls.
  • When completed it will provide over 4,000 sq feet of retail space with free parking
  • The facade on the 118 Main building covers up a cinderblock wall. It uses 100 year old brick and Marble with an original 1916 medallion is from a demolished building in Baxter Springs.
    We are taking the rest of the facade as far back to original as possible.

Quartersawn Properties has acquired the old Watts paint buildings. We have begun the demolition phase of the project and will be putting them up for mixed use retail when completed. We will take the building back to its original name, the Miles-Block Building and rename it Miles-Block Mall. Look for big changes at 112 Main Street in the coming Weeks.
